I do not like to spend a lot of time travelling and to be perfectly honest when I do get annual leave from work I would prefer to just spend it doing up the house or working in the garden. But for my wife, travelling abroad for a tan is the whole point of having annual leave; she really would love to get away whenever she could. We don’t have enough money coming in to go abroad every year, but manage it ever couple of years. It was our twentieth anniversary this year and I decided to treat the wife to a surprise weekend away. She had been a bit down in the dumps recently because our son started university and has flown the nest. My plan was to take her somewhere in the UK like Wales or Scotland but then I came across an ad for the Channel Tunnel.
And although I was already aware of the Channel Tunnel, I am part of the minority of people from England who actually haven’t been in it yet. And for us to get from our home in Bromley right across to Paris it would only take us a few hours to drive all the way. I have always fancied the idea of driving under the sea and I knew my wife would love the idea. I was also even more surprised when I discovered that it would only take about thirty five minutes for us to drive from Folkestone to Calais.
On the weekend of our anniversary I took my wife to France. We took the Channel Tunnel as planned and it was actually very exciting. We actually both really enjoyed our time in Paris. The best thing about the tunnel is the fact that the continent really seems so near. Its just as easy for me to get to Paris as it is to head to Liverpool. And the price was actually quite affordable. Hopefully, next year we will head off to Europe with the car for about two weeks.
City breaks Europe style are extremely popular today. France hotels are among the best in Europe when thinking about this option. Many are pet friendly hotels also. In today’s faltering economy, nothing beats a short city break. |
